Who Lives in Kansas?

The U.S. Bureau of the Census estimates that 4.1% of the population of Kansas is foreign-born (1997 statistics).

School District Information
Your local public school district is one of the best sources of information on what languages are being spoken in your area.

The Kansas State Department of Education has published a table tabulating the languages spoken in Kansas public schools.

They report over 13,000 limited English proficient (LEP) students enrolled in Kansas public schools, grades K-12, in the 1997-1998 school year. This number has doubled since the 1992-1993 school year.

Most common languages include: 10,145 Spanish, 1,052 Vietnamese, 442 Lao, 261 Hmong, 210 German, 136 Cambodian, 103 Korean, 101 Cantonese, and 101 Russian.
